OUR SCHOOL AND IT'S MISSION
Hebrew School is not just about preparing for B’nei Mitzvah. Learning Hebrew and Jewish Studies is important and forms the basis of lifelong Jewish learning. We hope that the time spent at Cheder will give young members the opportunity to explore what it means to be Jewish and belong to a community. We hope that they will continue their journey of Jewish learning way beyond the Cheder years and that this learning will make living Jewish in the modern world relevant.
Our Aims Are:
encourage and support every child to learn and enjoy Judaism and Hebrew
instill in our children a strong sense of Jewish morality and a commitment to ethical living
encourage our children to have positive feelings about their Jewish heritage, identify with the Jewish community and the Progressive movement
provide in every child the knowledge and instill the confidence that will enable them to participate in leading Progressive Jewish prayer services and Torah readings
organise outings, celebrations and special events of Jewish significance.
support our children in their quest for Jewish knowledge and their exploration of Jewish traditions
provide background knowledge for a thoughtful and balanced approach to Zionism, Israel and Jewish continuity
By the age of 13 we intend that each of our students will:
read Hebrew from a pointed text using Israeli pronunciation
