Beit Emanuel Matters, 4/5 March 2020

Temple/Beit Emanuel 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Our 27th (hybrid) AGM will take place in Shul (rather than the Slome Auditorium) and on Zoom on the evening of Thursday, 10 March 2022 at 19h00 (7 PM).

The formal notice of the meeting was sent out to all members last Friday. If you’re a member in good standing and did not receive the meeting notice, please message me on Whatsapp or email me.

If you’re planning to stand for Mancom, please have your completed/signed nomination form with us by close of business on Tuesday the 8th. Please also indicate (or give some thought to) which portfolio you’d like to head up.

A message from our Chair, Paul Davis, regarding the AGM.

This year’s AGM will be a hybrid meeting, i.e. will be held both in-person and on Zoom, with full participation on both modes.

AGMs are very important events for any organisation, and ours is no exception.

We’ll receive reports on the financial status of the organisation, a Rabbinic Report, and the Chair’s overview of the achievements, concerns and directions of the congregation. There will also be individual reports from the portfolio heads, plus general discussion.

This is a time to put questions and expect answers. We’ll also be electing the 2022 Mancom, so please do your utmost to attend, to keep up to date and contribute to our great Shul.

Kindest and warmest regards,

Paul

Talmud Study Group

Our Talmud Study Group has been meeting online (on Sunday afternoons) for the past two years. With restrictions having now been relaxed, the group took the decision to begin meeting in person again. Meetings will now take place at 11h30 on Shabbat morning, and will usually be held in the Gillis Boardroom, or elsewhere on the Campus in need.

If you’re interested in participating in this study group, please contact Morgana Segel in the Shul Office, who will put you in touch with the organisers.

Music Circle

Next Friday, the 11th March we’ll be starting a music circle at 5:15pm. Bring your voices and your instruments to learn some old and some new melodies which we’ll be singing in shul.

SA Jewish Report

Good news for those who prefer to read the Jewish Report in hardcopy format rather than online. (I’m told it’s also easier to read that way during the Rabbi’s Drash. Just kidding, nobody really does that.) From next week (11/12 March) copies of the Jewish Report will be available in the Shul Foyer, for the first time since lockdown began two years ago.

Thanks to Sandy Furman and the Distribution team at the SAJR for arranging to add us as a distribution point.

ARZENU Beit Emanuel Havdalah: Bafana Modise

ARZENU Beit Emanuel will be holding its next Havdalah ceremony and talk on Saturday, 12 March at 18h45 (6.45 PM). This will be a hybrid event, taking place in the Gillis Boardroom and on Zoom.

The special guest speaker will be Bafana Modise, a radio personality, MC, speaker and members of SA Friends of Israel (SAFI).

Please join us in the Gillis Boardroom or on Zoom next Saturday evening, for what should prove to be an interesting evening.
