Events at Beit Emanuel over the next month

We trust you all had a good break and are now fully back into the swing of things. Herebelow are some of our forthcoming events .

Benny Stalson Religion School – The opening class is next Monday, 19 January 2015 – 18:00-19:30. – Participation of both Parents and pupils is required. Children turning 10 years in 2015 are encouraged to start attending these classes.

Our classes take place twice a week, Mondays 4.00 p.m. – 6.30 p.m. and Saturdays 9.15 a.m. -10.30 a.m. Beit Emanuel has been undergoing an exciting process of revising our approach to Hebrew and Jewish education offered in the religion school. We are drawing on the best of international practice and look forward in 2015 in beginning the process of implementing a world-class programme of education for our children.

Hebrew Classes & Introduction to Judaism begins on Wednesday 24 January 2015. Hebrew classes are from 5.30 p.m. – 6.30 p.m. and the Introduction to Judaism class follows immediately from 6.30 p.m.

Seder Tu’Bishvat Wednesday 4 February – 6.30 p.m. We will celebrate the annual festival of trees by planting a tree in the shul grounds which will be followed by an old kabbalistic custom wherein ten symbolic fruits are eaten amid study and the singing of seasonal songs – R80.00 to cover the cost of a light meal.

Special performance of ‘Bereh’ by Robert Colman Thursday 12 February at 8.00 p.m. in the Courtyard. Bereh is a Yiddish story by South African Samuel Leibowitz about an old man working in a mine concession store. R50.00 per ticket. Further details in the ‘Activities Programme’ attached hereto.

John Cranko Farewell concert – Friday 13 February during the Kiddush after the evening service. John, who is a talented artist, musician and a member of Beit Emanuel is leaving us for the U.K.

Mediterranean Feast Workshop – Sunday 15 February at 10.00 a.m. Sharon Shaked will teach you how to cook Israeli and Mediterranean dishes. R150.00 per person to cover the cost of ingredients.

Annual General Meeting – Thursday 19 February at 7.00 p.m. in the Slome Auditorium. Your attendance and participation at the AGM is vital to our community’s future.
