Two of our Choir members, Jessica Sherman & Leigh Sussman, sing with the Lewandowski Chorale, which will be holding a special evening to be held at Villa Arcadia, just up the road from the shul, on 24 May 2014. You are invited to attend.
The Lewandowski Chorale, under the baton of Adam Golding, is a group of musicians dedicated
to the revival of classical Jewish liturgical music in its original and unarranged form. In their two
years of existence, they have performed numerous times in Johannesburg, they have taken the
stage at the new Soweto Theatre and they have performed at the prestigious Lewandowski
Festival in Berlin.
Arcadia, the second Parktown home to the Phillips Family, was a place of art, music and culture.
Sir Lionel and Lady Florence were the founders of the Johannesburg Art Gallery and they
commissioned Sir Herbert Baker to design an extension to their home – a music room. The home
spent a large portion of its life being used as a Jewish Orphanage and the Music Room was
converted into a synagogue. After a short tour through this magnificent mansion, we will be
treated to a recital by the Lewandowski Chorale.
