Visit of Rabbi Shaked next week to Beit Emanuel

Beit Emanuel is delighted to be welcoming Rabbi Shaked to the congregation next week.
Rabbi Shaked is a graduate of the Israeli Rabbinic Program at the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem. After his ordination, he worked at the Leo Back Education Center in Haifa. He has also been an executive director of an interfaith reconciliation organization between Israelis and Palestinians, and has taught Torah and rabbinic literature in various institutions. He has worked for several years as a community Rabbi in “Achvat Israel” congregation, Rishon Lezion. Rabbi Shaked is currently busy with a PhD at Tel Aviv University on the thought of the famous Jewish philosopher Martin Buber.
There will be several opportunities for congregants to meet Rabbi Shaked and see him conducting a number of rabbinic duties.
He will arrive in Johannesburg on 3 April and return to Israel on 12 April.

Thursday 4 April 2.30 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. : Opportunity for congregants to come and meet Rabbi Shaked at Beit Emanuel.
Friday 5 April 6.00 p.m. – 7.15 p.m. : Friday night service where Rabbi Shaked will begin Kabbalat Shabbat and lead the sermon. The service will be followed by a light meal/kiddush where there will be opportunities to meet with him.
Saturday 6 April 9.00 a.m. – 10.30 a.m.: Rabbi Shaked will lead service from the Amida and the Torah Service
11.00 p.m. – 12.15 p.m. : Rabbi Shaked will deliver a talk on the topic “The scale of Biblical history: when did the Bible happen? A journey between history, archeology and faith”.
12.30 p.m. – 2.00 p.m. : Rabbi Shaked will lead the Talmud study session on Tractate Berachot
2.30 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. : There will be an open opportunity for congregants to meet with Rabbi Shaked at Beit Emanuel – pop in and chat with him.
5.30 p.m. – 6.45 p.m. : Seudah Shlishit with Rabbi Shaked
Tuesday 9 April 7.30 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. : Rabbi Shaked will Deliver a communal lecture on the topic
“Peace activism in Israel: roots, challenges, possibilities”
Wednesday 10 April 6.30 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. : Rabbi Shaked will teach the Introduction to Judaism class.
