Beit Emanuel Matters, 19/20 November 2021

Happening this Shabbat

This Shabbat we’ll take the opportunity to wish Andrew and Mickie Jacobs “Bon Voyage” and to thank them for their amazing contribution to the congregation (in so many different roles) in the years since they became members. Fortunately this is not a final goodbye, as Andrew and Mickie will be dividing their time between their granddaughter (oh, and their children!) in the UK and their home in SA. Please join us in Shul or on Zoom this Friday evening, and if you’re in Shul, join us for a Brocha in the Janks Hall.

Happy Birthday, Beit Emanuel!

Our beloved Beit Emanuel (originally known as Temple Emanuel) turns 67 on the 19th. The congregation was established in 1954, although the iconic synagogue building was only consecrated in 1967. Yom Huledet Sameach!

The summer night air is gentle and cool, the Chanukah candles are lit, the slowness of the year-end has begun.

AND WE ARE BACK with one of our famous night markets. On Friday 3 December, we will be holding a Chanukah Night Market.

What better way to gift somebody special than with something that is love-made by hand from our shul?

Anybody who has something to sell, please contact Lesley Hudson to book a table on 083 325 1701 or

Kristallnacht was commemorated on 9/10 November. Here is Carolyn Saks’ video on the various themes related to Kristallnacht.

Shabbat Shalom!
