The two administrative posts advertised in our Bulletin, on our website and in the Bet David bulletin over the past fortnight, have been filled. The posts became vacant following the resignation of our long-time Operations Manager Ilana Alroy.
Sandra (Sandy) Bean has been appointed Synagogue Administrator, and will take Ilana’s place in the front office, handling queries from our members and the other administrative tasks making up Ilana’s substantial workload. Sandra has experience in various fields. Sandra has already started work and some of you may already have met her.
Russell Cohen, who has held the post of Strategic Development for the past year, takes over as Operations Manager, in charge of all administrative staff and issues. Russell is a former chairman and vice chairman of Beit Emanuel and has also served as SAUPJ vice president for Gauteng region.
Irwin Manoim, chairman of Beit Emanuel, said: “Russell brings enormous hands-on experience of Beit Emanuel’s management as well as the wider policy issues of the Progressive movement. He is well respected both at Beit Emanuel and our sister synagogues for his hard work and low-key pragmatism. We are delighted to welcome both Russell and Sandra to our full-time staff.”
Hester Hollander, a member of our Executive Committee and a professional HR manager, handled the interview and selection process for both posts, assisted by our treasurer, Ian West. There were seven applications for the Synagogue Administrator post, and three for the Operations Manager post.
