JTalk – The Kotel Egalitarian Prayer space – a victory or bad compromise?

Following the service on Shabbat mornings, Beit Emanuel hosts an interesting and informed speaker on a thought-provoking topic. Sessions start at approx. 11.15 am.

9 April – The KOTEL – “It seemed a solution worthy of Solomon: create a permanent egalitarian prayer space at the Western Wall alongside the gender-segregated area that has been the subject of vitriolic protest”. (New York Times, Feb 2 2016). Prof. David Bilchitz and Rabbi Sa’ar Shaked to discuss if it’s a victory for Progressive Jews or a bad compromise that perpetuates our second-class status.

16 April – If we corrupt agriculture we corrupt culture Farming is not man’s business, it is his moral duty, says Alan Rosenberg, a consultant on agro ecology and food security and their links to social, environmental and economic sustainability. Alan has worked in agriculture in four countries in the past four decades – including a kibbutz in Israel – and has published five books on environmentally sound and socially just farming techniques. He will explain the links between soil health and tikun olam in what promises to be an unusual talk on an important issue.
