JTalk: British foreign correspondent Jonathan Steele on the Middle East

JTalk – The Current Middle East Crisis – Syria & Isis

Following the service on Shabbat mornings, Beit Emanuel hosts an interesting and informed speaker on a thought-provoking topic. Sessions start at approx. 11.15 am.

12th March – British foreign correspondent on the Middle East Jonathan Steele is a renowned journalist, broadcaster and author, and we are fortunate to have him agree to speak to us during a brief visit to Johannesburg. He has been an award-winning foreign correspondent in Washington and Moscow, and has covered wars in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Serbia, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Afghanistan, going back to the nineteen seventies. He will talk about the current Middle East crisis, focussing particularly on Syria and Isis.

19th March – What lies behind the varsities turmoil?

We have asked two university students with insider perspectives, Rosa Manoim and Mitchel Hunter, to explain the issues, debates and broken promises that lie behind the tensions.
