JTalk this week: Irwin Manoim on early Reform movement and Zionism in SA

22 August – Irwin Manoim will present The History of the South African Reform Movement (Part IV)

Reform in South Africa, unlike the UK and USA, was strongly Zionist from the start, declaring its Zionism even before it had fully formulated its religious principles. Reform leaders played important roles in the early Zionist movement. But not all Zionist leaders were positive about Reform. This JTalk will also look at: Why was Zionism so strong in South Africa? Who were Zionism’s opponents? Why was South African aliyah so weak? Jabotinsky’s role in South Africa. Zionism and female emancipation.
