I have been honoured to hold the Youth Worker portfolio this year. I am enjoying the challenges and rewards of shaping the role.
So far in 2015, we have begun Hebrew and Jewish studies classes for congregants aged 5-9, called J-Kids Junior. These are held each Saturday and taught by Jody Segel, who is doing a wonderful job engaging the children in educational and creative activities.
Friday night’s J-Kids activities, also facilitated by Jody, are as popular as ever; the children have learnt about topics such as Jewish symbols, Chagim and more.
We are gearing up for the High Holy day period, and will soon begin planning a hands-on, fun and educational programme for our youth. We are looking for teachers to support us, so please be in touch if you know of anyone that may be interested.
For the remainder of 2015, we have a number of exciting initiatives planned. Our Ayeka youth workshops, aimed at 12-16 year olds will run throughout August, with a series of thought provoking classes exploring topics such as freedom, democracy, creativity, social justice and more.
Watch this space for other engaging youth opportunities, and please be in touch if you have a suggestion or request for an activity.
On a personal note, I would like to thank the Beit Emanuel community for making me feel welcome and appreciated, and putting your trust in me to fulfil this important role.
