JTalk – Following the service on Shabbat mornings, Beit Emanuel hosts an interesting and informed speaker on a thought-provoking topic. Sessions run for approx. an hour starting at approx. 11.15 am.
4 July – This week, a movie called “They Promised us the Sea” will be screened. It is a documentary about Arab Jews. In particular it is about the Moroccan Jews and how they came to be in Israel, what they left behind and what they took with them. Lovely musical track as well.
11 July – Father Mokesh Morar will discuss “How do we deal with religious extremists ?” Father Mokesh Morar, chaplain to our neighbours at Holy Family College across the road, will be familiar to many of you as a regular participant in Beit Emanuel events.
We have asked him to discuss the recent attack on the ancient Church of the Multiplication in Galilee, which has brought condemnation from our own Progressive movement and from all corners of the world.
This arson attack does not stand in isolation: in the same week, we heard of the killing of nine people at a Bible study group of Black church leaders in the USA. And there have been many other cruel actions by different religious extremists: Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and, let us not forget, Jews.
How do we face such bigotry? Extremists are also people and are also part of human race, but how do we deal with those unable to see the humanity in others? Join Father Mokesh and others to search for our common humanity amidst such horrific actions.
