JTalk this week: Ivor Chipkin on ethnicity and xenophobia in SA

Following the service on Shabbat mornings, Beit Emanuel hosts an interesting and informed speaker on a thought-provoking topic. Sessions run for approx. an hour starting at approx. 11.15 am.

16 May – Ivor Chipkin, Executive Director of the Public Affairs Research Institute will discuss the recent xenophobic attacks on foreigners and what it says about us as a South African nation. He focuses on the early 2000s when he says “a pandora’s box of ethnic nationalism” was opened in South Africa.

JFilm screens movies on the first Sunday of each month. Due to a technical hitch experienced at the last J Film presentation there will be no charge for the next one which will be screened on 7 June 2015.
